Effects of CCB in
a couples context
The effects of CCB in couples sessions are likewise grounded in the physiological and psychological processes of connected breathing. A more detailed explanation of these mechanisms can be found on the page “What is Conscious Connected Breathwork?”
Beyond this, additional effects arise in couples sessions through the shared practice of conscious, connected breathing.
Conscious Connected Breathwork may be supportive for couples in the following areas, among others:
-
the wish for greater connection and closeness – through the experience of resonance in shared, rhythmic breathing
-
tension or recurring conflict patterns – through a deeper understanding of underlying emotional and bodily processes
-
difficulties in communication – through the cultivation of presence, awareness, and emotional openness
-
emotional blockages or unspoken themes – these often become more perceptible within the shared breathing process
-
the need for connection – through co-regulation of the nervous systems during the breathing process
-
the wish for shared spiritual development – through the potential experience of expanded states of consciousness and awareness
Many couples report that shared breathing brings a new level of clarity. Dynamics that may remain difficult to grasp in everyday life become directly perceptible during the breathing process, allowing them to be recognised and worked with more consciously. At the same time, shared CCB can foster a sense of connection that extends beyond the session into daily life.
Note: CCB is an intensive breathing technique and may not be suitable for everyone at all times. Please refer to the contraindications listed on the page “What is Conscious Connected Breathwork?”
Structure of a couples session
A couples session typically lasts around 120 minutes. We begin with a conversation to clarify your intention as well as any currently relevant relational dynamics. This is followed by an introduction to the breathing technique and, if needed, preparatory yoga, fascia, and breathing exercises. The breathing journey usually takes place lying down, with both partners positioned side by side, breathing together in a shared rhythm. At the center of the session is a phase of intensive, conscious connected breathing lasting around 50 minutes, followed by a 10–15 minute relaxation phase. Key elements of the form of CCB I facilitate include nose–mouth breathing (inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the mouth), an increased breathing rate, and a wave-like breathing motion moving from the abdomen into the chest, followed by a relaxed exhalation. The breath is continuous, without pauses between inhalation and exhalation.
During the breathing phase, I work with carefully curated music sequences that structure and support the process in a wave-like manner. Depending on prior agreement, vocalisation, breath retention, targeted body-based interventions, as well as essential oils (aromatherapy) and other supportive elements can be integrated into the session. All elements are explained in detail beforehand and tailored to the individual. Following the breathing journey, there is a period of integration and rest, as well as a shared closing conversation.
Additional elements (optional)
Selected elements from traditional Tantra – an area I have studied extensively (see “About me”) – can optionally be integrated into couples sessions. I support couples in exploring the polarity of worship and self-surrender, allowing the body and mind to gradually open to deeper forms of connection. This may include working with polarities, as well as simple, everyday practices that cultivate presence and mutual awareness. With sufficient openness, selected practices from erotic Tantra may also be included. I offer these aspects of traditional tantric experiential knowledge in a reflective, contemporary, and non-dogmatic way.

Conscious Connected
Breathwork for couples
Conscious Connected Breathwork is particularly well suited for couples. Shared, rhythmic breathing can deepen or renew connection, trust, and mindful presence within the relationship, while opening spaces for emotional expression and intimacy. Couples are supported in consciously sharing and integrating inner processes. Through connected breathing, experiences of activation, relaxation, or emotional opening are not felt in isolation, but within a shared experiential field. At the same time, a direct form of resonance emerges between the partners (co-regulation of the nervous system).
A CCB couples session combines elements of individual and group sessions within a setting specifically oriented toward the dynamic between two people. At its center is the shared breathing process. This format allows for a highly attuned and responsive approach to both personal and relational themes, questions, and current dynamics within the relationship. Throughout the session, my attention is directed toward both partners and the shared process, allowing breathing patterns, physical responses, and emotional dynamics to be perceived and supported as they arise – for example through targeted breath retention, vocalisation, or gentle physical interventions. A couples session can be particularly beneficial if you wish to deepen your connection, better understand relational dynamics, or explore new forms of intimacy, presence, communication, and mutual awareness through shared breathing.
