Kundalini Awakening &
Process Support

I offer grounded support for individuals navigating what is often described as kundalini awakening or kundalini process, including the sometimes challenging transformations that may accompany such experiences. My work draws on many years of engagement with my own kundalini process, particularly since 2018. It is further informed by my ongoing academic research into the historical and conceptual foundations of the kundalini phenomenon, as well as by my practical experience supporting others through processes of spiritual transformation.

In order to work with the challenges of my own process, I have engaged, among other approaches, with tantric-yogic interpretations of the kundalini phenomenon. As part of this path, I trained as a Kundalini Yoga teacher (3HO) and spent several years as a student of a traditional tantric teacher. A key turning point for me was my encounter with Conscious Connected Breathwork (CCB), along with the realisation that it offers a particularly effective and direct method for the regulation and integration of the kundalini process.

In addition to tantric and body-based yogic approaches, I also draw on psychological perspectives in my work. In particular, I engage with the approach of the Institute for Frontier Areas of Psychology and Mental Health (IGPP) in Freiburg i. Breisgau, Germany. A key reference point is the concept of “spiritual crisis,” as elaborated by Liane Hofmann. This perspective allows spiritual processes to be understood without prematurely pathologising them and supports a more differentiated and constructive approach.

My current work has emerged from this integration of lived practice and academic reflection.

Breath ≡ Prāṇa ≡ Consciousness

The Kundalini Process –
a Complex Phenomenon

In contrast to common interpretations, I do not understand kundalini primarily as an “energy,” even though it is often translated in this way and its unfolding may subjectively be experienced as such. Drawing on traditional interpretations from Kashmiri Śaiva-Śākta Tantra – as conveyed today, for example, by Igor Kufayev and Christopher Wallis – I instead understand it as the force of self-reflexivity within consciousness itself, seeking to become increasingly embodied over time. I also draw on a range of traditional and contemporary models that describe different trajectories and dynamics of the kundalini process and allow for a more differentiated understanding.

The following signs and symptoms are commonly reported in the context of kundalini awakening or kundalini process experiences:

  • a strong and sustained intensification of self- and bodily awareness, particularly affecting the sensory perception (hearing, seeing, tasting, smelling, touch)

  • unusual energetic sensations and pressure phenomena in the body – especially along the spine – such as perceived “energy flow,” vibrations, or inner heat or cold

  • a marked intensification of emotional processes

  • increased awareness of sexual or vital energy, including heightened states of arousal

  • sudden access to previously unconscious or inaccessible memories

  • altered states of consciousness (e.g. changes in the perception of space and time, temporary disorientation, light phenomena, or other vision-like experiences)

  • abrupt and lasting changes in habits, patterns of thinking, inner attitudes, and/or personality traits

  • spontaneously arising, involuntary body movements or impulses (so-called kriyās)

  • a deepened longing for spiritual experiences

The kundalini phenomenon is complex, and many of the characteristics described here may also occur independently of a kundalini process – for example in the context of stress responses, trauma, psychological crises or disorders, or following the use of psychoactive substances. Careful differentiation is therefore essential. In my work, the aim is to understand the specific manifestations that arise at a deeper level and to support the process in a way that fosters its stabilisation and integration.

The Breath as a
Key to Integration

A central turning point in my own practice was my encounter with Conscious Connected Breathwork (CCB). For me, this form of breathwork represents one of the most direct and at the same time most sustainable ways to gradually regulate and integrate the kundalini process. The breath is autonomically regulated, yet it can also be influenced voluntarily. It therefore forms a unique interface between body and mind and can be understood as a direct expression of that movement of consciousness which, in a tantric context, is described as kundalini. Over the course of the kundalini process, this movement is experienced as an increasing embodiment of consciousness – as a deepening awareness that gradually permeates the entire body. Many of the phenomena described above can be understood from this perspective. In Conscious Connected Breathwork, the unity of breath, energy, and consciousness becomes directly accessible. CCB thereby allows for an active and conscious engagement with the intense transformations that may arise during the kundalini process, supporting their stabilisation.

My Approach

My work is aimed at individuals undergoing intense spiritual processes, particularly those experiencing phenomena associated with an emerging or already active kundalini process, and provides grounded, non-dogmatic support for kundalini awakening through breathwork and a research-informed understanding of altered states and embodied experience. It includes:

  • consultation sessions (in person in Fürth or online), based on my long-standing engagement with the process

  • a nuanced and sensitive assessment of the current process dynamics

  • individual guidance and practical impulses on topics such as breathing, lifestyle, nutrition, relationships, and self-regulation

  • where appropriate, tailored yoga and practice sequences for home use

  • and, in particular, Conscious Connected Breathwork sessions to support the stabilisation and integration of the process

My intention is not to impose a particular trajectory, but to recognise the inner logic and dynamics of the process and to support it in a way that fosters a gentle and integrative unfolding.
